Get Out Of This House

The last three days have been very challenging around here. Maya has been little miss crabby crab. It's so hard to tell what is bothering her sometimes - it seems like she is just crying NON STOP and there are no clear signs of what is distressing her.  It reminds me of when she was colicky as a new born and all we could do to make her stop crying was sit her up and pat her back for two weeks straight. Tonight after supper I told her Dad, "Take this child out of here so I can clean up dinner in silence!". She always seems to be in a better mood when we are hanging around the back yard so out they went.  Later I joined them for some grass time and it is so entertaining to see her chicken out every time I try to get her to touch the grass. She hates it when her feet or any other part of her body has contact with those spiky little things growing out of the ground.  It's funny because even when she is driving me crazy I still have the urge to just scoop her up and give her a million kisses, know what I mean? Do your little ones ever make you go bonkers?

This Long Weekend

It's only Saturday and we still have two more glorious days of nice weather ahead of us!

Toddler Cuteness

I just can't get enough of her cuteness lately. She repeats every word that comes out of my mouth. She sings along to songs. She copies all my gestures. She climbs everything. I got a video of her saying "cracker" the other day cause every time I pick her up from daycare she asks for a cracker over and over again all the way home. It must be her new favourite thing. And don't even get me started on the fact that she knows most of her body parts....nose, eyes, ears, mouth, hair, belly button, hands, feet....I had no idea she knew so much!  I know that every other fourteen month old can do these things, but come on, MY baby girl is the cutest for sure!

Another thing I love is when day care sends home things that she has made.  For reals, my heart explodes with pride when I see what she has done (even though I know most of it is the handi work of her teachers and she just puts random splashes of paint on things).  But still, these are the things that make being a parent so much fun. Here are just a few of the things that have come home lately...

A thumb print necklace

A painted picture frame with sparkles that says "Mom"

These little handprints literally make me swoon.

They love to do stuff with paint!

I cannot even explain how something simple like a tiny handprint on paper can make your day when you are away from your little one at work.  It is such a miracle to watch a child you created grow and learn every day and to change so much every day. I cherish this time in my life.

Daughters, Mothers and Grandmothers

Mother's day is not always a good day for some. Many people do not have their mother's around to celebrate. Many others have not been blessed with the joys of motherhood.  I am lucky to have a wonderful grandmother, mother, mother-in-law, and daughter all present in my life, who each still play an active part of shaping who I am. This past weekend I got to spend some quality time with my grandma and my Mom at my brother's wedding (more on that later). Good times.

This and That

This is Maya playing with four stuffed animals that I made for her before she was my little itty bitty baby. They have mostly been sitting on her shelf but this morning when she woke up with her crazy hair, snotty nose, smelly diaper, bright smiley self the first thing she did when I went into her room to say good morning was point at the animals. So Here she is enjoying her newest friends!  She has been on a stuffed animal craze lately, she can't get enough of them! Some of her other favourites are her Mon-Chi-Chi, Violet the dog, Layla the cabbage patch kid, Teddy, and Nibbles the bunny.

You may remember that I once talked about these dolls here and talked about sewing in general in this post.

I recently made some more soft blocks, similar to the ones featured here, when Maya announced she was going to be a big sister.

These ones are for baby boy's nursery. So far the walls are grey, and I have picked a variety of bright fabrics to fill the room.

So far I have sewn these:

And this, which I found here on Pinterest.

I have some curtains and a few other sewing projects for this room and when it is all complete I will do a post on here for everyone to see! It may take a while, let me tell ya, trying to get simple sewing projects done takes twice as long when you are working full time and have a fourteen month old to entertain.

This is also the reason why I don't get on here nearly as much to post about things. There are so many things that I think about writing about but then I just don't have the energy at the end of the day.

Let's see, what else is going on lately:

  • My brother's wedding is next weekend in Niagara Falls. I found a dress for the occassion. It is not the hot dress that I envisioned in this post, but that was before I was preggo and my choices of attire suddenly dwindled since there are only so many places to shop for maternity dresses in town.

Here is the one I bought, it is from Thyme Maternity.

It's a little more simple than what I would normally buy for a wedding, but the fabric is super comfortable and that is so important when you are 25 weeks pregnant! I'll just snazz it up with some fancy accessories.

  • I am really getting sick of being at work already. I don't usually talk about my job on here, but let me tell you it has been a bit of a transition going from being at home every day with Maya to commuting 45 mins a day to a full time job. I honestly didn't think it would be such a big deal, but I'm just not liking the stress of my job mixed with having to get home and have dinner on the table at a decent time every day. The kind of job I have can take a lot out of you, and it is difficult to take care of yourself when you are taking care of other kids and their families all day.  Somethings gotta give after this next baby comes, something that works better for our family. I'm not sure what that is yet.

  • Since this blog is supposed to be about trying to stay healthy, I thought I would give an update on my pregnancy. So far I have gained 20lbs. A little more than I had hoped at this point in the game but my OB says this is perfectly respectable and average for me. It's funny because even though I have gained that much, I still weigh about 14 lbs less than I did before I was even pregnant with Maya last time around. And after Maya was born I lost my baby weight pretty quickly with breastfeeding. So I am hoping that with this one I will have a similar experience and then I can continue to work towards losing more pre-baby weight and finally get to my ultimate goal weight. Hope that make sense! Other than that I have been feeling good for the most part, just tired and achy like most pregnant ladies tend to be at this stage of the game! I have been continuing kickboxing although the last few weeks have been sketchy with Chris's work schedule. After this session is done my membership will be over for the year so I will likely take up some other stuff at that point, which is perfect timing cause my belly was starting to get in the way!
I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!
